Wow...what happened to "free" education? We paid all of Shanna's fees for school, her activity card and then bought her school supplies...we squeaked by for $299. That doesn't include new clothes...I can't imagine what a family of multiple children must pay.
Shanna has now earned alto saxophone first chair in band and started back with the jazz band this morning (which is a smaller, elite band playing tons of cool music - they practice every morning before school for 45 minutes).
Music is such a part of Shanna's life and always has been...I promised I wouldn't post the photo, but I have a picture of her in her pajamas playing the harmonica while sitting on the potty when she was about 4 years old. She started playing clarinet in the sixth grade and in 2007, switched to the alto sax. She can play by ear (which is absolutely amazing to me). Next week, she starts private lessons...her band teacher thinks she has the potential to go far with her music, so we'll put the time and money in and see where it goes. She's planning to try and compete in the State Competition this year, which is another step in her musical journey. It's so amazing to hear how good the kids are and particularly in the jazz band, how much they all enjoy it. It's more of a "jam session" than a band practice. I never had the opportunity to play a musical instrument so we're thrilled that she has the talent and the interest.
Painters paint pictures on canvas, musicians paint pictures on silence.
