We’ve had a relaxing couple of days at home and miracle of miracles, I haven’t completely blown my diet. I started NutriSystem on Tuesday last week and so far have lost six pounds. I’m not wild about the food…it’s 50-50 for me, although I do like the Fudge Graham Lunch Bar, the Strawberry Shortcake Bar, the Flatbread and Thick Crust Pizza, the Beef Tacos and the Honey Mustard Pretzels. You know those guys you see at the state fair, on infomercials on TV and occasionally at Costco with their little microphones (don’t you wonder if those guys are wanna-be game show hosts), selling the Ginzu knives or the Little Giant ladder or whatever. Anyway…several months ago, while shopping at Costco, I watched a guy making smoothies with a VitaMix. I rarely stop at these things or partake of the samples, but he claimed that he made a smoothie with vegetables (I hate vegetables) that tasted good…so I had to see for myself and it was true…it was really good. Anyone who knows me knows I’m not an impulse buyer and to spend that much money on a fancy blender…well, let’s just say, I didn’t buy it that day. I told my husband Russell about it and he agreed that any appliance that could get us to eat our daily allotment of fruits and veggies in a smoothie could be a good thing, so we went to look at it again. I researched the Vitamix machine online and after several days of deliberation, we bought it…and found a place of honor for it on our kitchen counter (a note about me…I detest clutter and have only the absolute necessities on my kitchen and bathroom counters). Fast forward three months and we’re finally using our Vitamix machine to make healthy smoothies every morning, so I’m combining elements from the NutriSystem diet with a healthy smoothie every morning and so far, so good.
